Steve Estep

Steve Estep focuses his practice on civil litigation. Steve has had extensive experience handling a broad range of cases for both plaintiffs and defendants, including personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, banking, antitrust, business, intellectual property, tax, securities, entertainment, defamation, and other types of litigation. Steve has tried numerous cases to judges and juries and has handled appeals in both state and federal courts. Two of his jury trial victories were featured in The National Law Journal. Although the majority of his practice is in Georgia, he has handled cases in thirteen different states, from Florida to Alaska. He carries an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating given.

Before becoming a member of Cohen, Cooper, Estep & Mudder in 2002, Steve spent the first thirteen years of his career at Atlanta's largest firm, King & Spalding. He was a partner in the tort litigation group from 1996 to 2001. At King & Spalding, Steve specialized in representing multinational corporations in multimillion-dollar product liability lawsuits involving products such as sport utility vehicles, fitness equipment, and silicone breast implants. Steve still represents large corporations, but he now focuses more of his practice on representing small businesses and individuals in a wide variety of litigation. Steve grew up in Florida and earned his undergraduate degree at Florida State University in 1985. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, from Mercer University in 1988.  At Mercer, Steve finished first in his class and was awarded the Woodruff Medal, the school's highest academic honor. He won merit-based scholarships, numerous academic awards, and was a member of the Mercer Law Review.

Steve was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1988.  He is admitted to practice in all state trial and appellate courts in Georgia, the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Steve is a member of the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta. He has been a guest speaker at legal seminars in the U.S. and abroad. He teaches each year in Emory Law School's well-known trial practice program, and he also is a volunteer coach for the Westminster Schools High School Mock Trial Team.

Steve enjoys reading, sports, fitness, travel, cooking, collecting wine, and mowing his lawn. He is a pretty good golfer, a decent surfer, and a lousy downhill skier.

Steve Mudder

Steve Mudder is a transactional attorney and specializes in the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, company formation, private financing, sports and entertainment law and estate planning. With regard to his corporate practice, Steve currently represents numerous entrepreneurs and private companies at various stages in the corporate life cycle, including formation, equity and debt funding, corporate governance, shareholder and partnership agreements, business development, securities laws matters and mergers and acquisitions. His clients are engaged in various industries such as construction, financial services, technology, real estate, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, and entertainment.

On the sports and entertainment side, Steve represents professional and amateur athletes, musicians, bands, solo artists, rap and R&B artists, producers, broadcasters, television and radio personalities, record companies, entertainment companies, publishers, management companies, talent agencies and promotion companies.  Steve is a licensed Contract Advisor with the National Football League Players Association and is building a sports agent practice representing professional athletes in the NFL and Major League Baseball.

Before becoming a member of Cohen, Cooper, Estep & Mudder, Steve worked as a corporate associate for two prominent national law firms: Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian in California's Silicon Valley, and King & Spalding in Atlanta, Georgia. At Gunderson Dettmer, Steve represented public and private technology companies in venture backed financings and in merger and acquisition transactions. Steve also represented first-tierenture capital firms in their private placement transactions. At King & Spalding, Steve represented Fortune 100 companies such as Sprint Corp., the Coca Cola Company and American Express. Steve represented multinational corporations in multimillion-dollar mergers and securities offerings transactions. Steve's particular focus on public company M&A involved the representation of Sprint Corp. during its proposed merger with WorldCom, the largest corporate transaction in history at the time, and the unwinding of the Global One Communications joint venture among Sprint, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom.

Steve was born in a small farming town in Northeast Nebraska and traveled the world growing up the son of an Army Lt. Colonel. He attended Harvard Law School and received his J.D., cum laude, in June 1998. While in Cambridge, he spent most of his time studying and trying to stay warm. Frankly, he was miserable at the time but now looks back on the experience very favorably. Before receiving his J.D., he attended Florida State University from 1991 to 1995 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, summa cum laude, and was honored for graduating with a 4.0 GPA and first in his class. Steve also received numerous awards and national recognition for his outstanding achievements in intramural sports, on and off campus socials, and Spring Break activities. That he made it to Harvard Law School still shocks most who know him.

Steve was admitted to practice in Georgia in 1998 and California in 2001. He is a member of the Georgia State Bar, the California State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Harvard Law School Recent Graduates Committee, the Florida State University College of Business Advisory Board, the Atlanta Sports Council, the Peach Bowl Committee, Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, and the NFL Players Association.

Steve enjoys sports, live music, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Unfortunately, his pro sports career ended prematurely (actually, he never played at the college level, either) and his acting career took a nose dive after his Hollywood agent told him he had the face and talent for radio.
