Worksite Accident: $6.9 million dollar settlement involving the death of a man working due to unsafe conditions who was killed by a compressed air explosion. Sheff Law Offices represented his wife and children in the lawsuit, which was settled out of court prior to trial. The settlement was believed to be one of the largest ever, in a workplace accident involving a single death, in Massachusetts. The case also prompted a major gas company to install safety equipment for the first time in hundreds of similar facilities across the country, and was widely publicized in the national press.
Personal Injury: $9 million dollar settlement for a 45 year old woman who was a seriously brain damaged due to a misdiagnosed mid cerebral artery aneurysm. The case involved over 60 depositions taken on four different continents. The Plaintiff was prepared to call seven different expert witnesses to testify as to liability and extent of her damages, including the world’s leading expert in brain aneurysms.
Product Liability: $3.8 million dollar recovery in tandem with local counsel in a case involving car accident victim who was thrown from his vehicle, and sustained a spinal cord injury as a result of allegedly defective equipment. This suit influenced a major Japanese automobile manufacturer to redesign and to implement new safety equipment in all their new vehicles.
Truck Accident: $1.2 million dollar recovery for a 45 year old man who sustained an L5-S1 disk herniation in a tractor trailer accident. Plaintiff alleged that the Defendant was speeding, following too closely and not paying proper attention to traffic conditions. Our firm was able to procure an admission from the Defendant that he violated the Department of Transportation Regulations regarding the transporting of hazardous materials, and disprove the Defendant’s version of how the accident occurred.
Construction Site Accident: $1.5 million dollar settlement in a construction site accident resulting in alleged brain injury and a herniated disc in the Plaintiff’s lower back. Although the Defendant testified that the Plaintiff was working in a prohibited area, our office was able to procure testimony that the Defendant requested the Plaintiff to work on the area in question. The case settled shortly before trial.
Product Liability: $500,000.00 dollar recovery in a case involving an injury sustained by a worker in meat-packing plant who injured his dominant hand when it was crushed in a defectively designed machine, manufactured by a multi-national corporation.
Worksite Accident: $650,000.00 dollar settlement on the third day of trial for a Plaintiff who was injured in a worksite accident involving defective scaffolding. Plaintiff alleged a brain injury and disk herniations. Prior to trial, the highest offer was $200,000.00. Our firm was able to procure deposition testimony from Defendant's Safety Manager that the scaffold violated OSHA regulations.
