Born in Portland, Oregon, raised here until the age of 12, I moved to New Zealand and was educated there, receiving my law degree from the University of Auckland 1976. For many years I did a variety of jobs - factory, building, landscaping, rare book dealer, entertainment, computers.

I became a member of the Oregon State Bar in 1991. I practiced law in New Zealand from 2003 to 2004 while maintaining my credentials here in Oregon.

I have played the Scottish Bagpipes since age eight and continue to perform professionally. I like to keep things simple and be as aggressive as possible without sacrificing fairness or good manners. My clients are important to me because they are the reason I serve as a lawyer
