TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI)
A mother suffered serious trauma to her brain when she was driving home after picking up her children and their friends from school. She had come to a complete stop at an intersection, checked for oncoming traffic and proceeded. A school bus barreled past a stop sign and collided with her car. The force was so great that her vehicle landed in the opposite direction, about 161 feet from the point of impact. Our client suffered multiple fractures and a severe traumatic brain injury that caused permanent cognitive defects, impaired attention and concentration abilities, chronic headaches, fatigue, memory deficits, double vision and depression.

The case was ready for trial when the local school district offered a settlement of $2.5 million. It represents the largest T.B.I. settlement paid in the county where the case was filed.

MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
An 11-year-old boy, with a non-threatening heart condition, died when a doctor used the wrong equipment in a simple procedure. Scheduled for a routine outpatient heart procedure called a balloon aortic valvuloplasty, his medical team used balloons too large for a small boy's heart. Emergency surgery could not repair the damage caused by the doctors' negligence and he died almost two months later. The doctor failed to comply with the standards expected of a well-qualified pediatric cardiologist and to exercise the degree of care a hospital should provide.

A settlement of $3 million was reached with the well-regarded children's hospital where this tragedy took place.

CONSTRUCTION LIABILITY
A Chicago construction worker fell 20 feet to the ground, landing directly on his head. Our client was disabled from the traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures he suffered in the fall, and was unable to work and support his family. We gathered the evidence to prove the job site was unsafe and that protections for workers, required by law, were not in place.

Our client and his family settled for $7.5 million with Hyman/Power and McHugh Construction. Still unable to work, our client does not have to worry about how his family will survive financially.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
A young man and several of his friends from Illinois traveled to Wisconsin to visit an amusement park. He was killed on the way home when a drunken friend rear-ended his motorcycle. The offending driver had been served alcohol at the amusement park to the point where he was clearly intoxicated. We successfully argued that the amusement park, although immune from similar prosecution in Wisconsin, was responsible under Illinois law because it advertises to the Illinois market.

A confidential settlement was reached with King Richard's Faire in the maximum amount allowed by the insurance policies
