About Attorney Gerard A. Jervis:-

Gerard A. Jervis was born and raised in Hawaii and was in the first graduating class of Damien Memorial High School where he was instructed by the Christian Brothers of Ireland. After high school, Mr. Jervis enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Spanish linguist during the Vietnam War. Mr. Jervis obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Chaminade University in 1973. Thereafter, Mr. Jervis attended the University of Hawaii School of Law, graduating in May 1979.

From 1979 to 1982, Mr. Jervis was appointed by the Governor of Hawaii to serve as a member of the University of Hawaii's board of Regents. Mr. Jervis also served as a member and former Chairman of the State's Judicial Selection Commission, which is responsible for screening judicial candidates for appointment and reappointment to serve on the bench. Additionally, Mr. Jervis has also served on the boards of many community nonprofit organizations.

In 1985, Mr. Jervis was serving as the attorney for the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii when he helped end a United Airlines pilot strike. The local economy was being crippled by a United Airlines pilot strike because over 50% of Hawaii supplies were transported by United. Mr. Jervis appealed to the Department of Transportation to use the right of cabotage, which would allow foreign airlines to carry the goods and passengers the state needed. The Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole granted primary approval of Mr. Jervis' case. In wake of the decision, United Airlines quickly moved to settle the dispute with their pilots and resume normal operations.

In 1989, Mr. Jervis' firm was instrumental in securing a record multi-million dollar recovery for over 200 households who were victims of the New Years 1988 flood in Kailua.

In November 1994, the Hawaii Supreme Court appointed Mr. Jervis appointed a trustee of the, which is dedicated to educating children of native Hawaiian ancestry. Mr. Jervis served as the Board's secretary from December 1994 until May of 1999, during one of the most turbulent periods of KSBE's one hundred plus year history.

After leaving Bishop Estate, Mr. Jervis resumed the practice of personal injury law, opening his present office on Uluniu Street in Kailua in March 2000.

The Honolulu Weekly readership voted Mr. Jervis "Best Lawyer in Hawaii" in 2003.

The Hawaii State Judiciary selected Mr. Jervis to serve as an arbitrator in the Court annexed Arbitration program.

Proud of his native Hawaiian descent, Mr. Jervis has authored a number of articles on the subject of Hawaiian history and culture. Mr. Jervis wrote "The Notches of Nuuanu Pali" for the November 1982 edition of Honolulu magazine, one of the oldest quarterly magazines in Hawaii. He also authored "A Hawaiian Healing Place" for the May/June 1984 edition of Hawaii magazine.

Community Leadership Positions and Awards:

  • Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Kamehameha Investment Corporation, a real estate development company that focuses on schools, houses, and shopping complexes.
  • Sat on the Board of Directors for the People's Bank of Southern California.
  • Sat as a board member for Capital Venture Concern, which included Duke University and the MacArthur Foundation as participating investors.
  • Selected to serve on the Hawaii America in of court #4 as a barrister.
  • Managed several billions of dollars of real estate and equity investments on behalf of the Bishop estate.
  • Been involved either as a trustee and/or a lawyer in 1000's of real estate transactions including large land purchases, commercial leases, residential leases, and sales.
  • Served six years on Hawaii's Judicial Selection Commission, which selects and screens judicial candidates for appointment and reappointment.
  • Selected by the Hawaii Supreme Court as a trustee of the multi-billion dollar Bishop Estate, which educates children of Native Hawaiian Ancestry.
