In fact, Mr. Bakhtiar's $4.4 million verdict against a prominent corporation that deliberately failed to install a guard on a dangerous machine, resulting in the partial amputation of an employee's thumb, is one of the largest known verdicts in California under a difficult to prove exception to the workers’ compensation exclusivity rule.
