Brian McCallister

Brian F. McCallister

Brian McCallister is the founder and owner of The McCallister Law Firm, P.C. Since founding the law firm in 1996, Brian has dedicated his professional life to the representation of individuals and families in cases involving catastrophic injury or death resulting from dangerous products, semi tractor-trailer crashes, automobile crashes and medical malpractice .

Brian graduated from the Saint Louis University School of Law in 1988. He has practiced law in the Kansas City area since then. He was selected to serve on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys (MATA), Missouri's premier plaintiffs' rights bar organization. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA), the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. In 1995, he became a graduate of the prestigious Trial Lawyer's College in Dubois, Wyoming, founded by world-renowned trial lawyer Gerry Spence in 1994. In 1996, Mr. McCallister was asked to return to the Trial Lawyer's College as part of the staff. He is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois.

Having grown up as a minister's son and grandson, Brian saw countless examples of his family's sacrifice for and service to others. This is the foundation on which his professional life of service to others is built. In every case, Brian seeks out close personal relationships with his clients and their families, giving him the ability to advocate for his clients powerfully, persuasively and passionately. His avocation is singing and he is often asked to sing solos for special occasions involving his clients and their families. Mr. McCallister is married to a criminal defense trial lawyer, Cyndy Short. They have three children - - Kyle 12, Mitchell 7 and Jillian 4.

Christopher J. Lawler

Christopher J. Lawler

Chris has been with the firm since August 2004. Prior to coming to work at the McCallister Law Firm, Chris clerked for the Honorable C. In that role, he was closely involved with nearly two dozen jury trials ranging from complex civil cases, domestic cases, and serious felonies. Chris is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.

Chris is an active member of the KCMBA Young Lawyers Section.  He is the Co-chair of the YLS Public Service Committee, and is a member of the YLS Social Committee.  Chris is also a member of the Misssouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America

Cyndy Short

Cyndy Short

Cyndy Short graduated from law school in 1987 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was toiling away in a small labor law firm when she was appointed to represent a young poor woman accused by the federal government of attempting to assassinate Jesse Jackson during his 1988 presidential campaign. This experience changed the course of her practice, and she dedicated most of the next 15 years of her career to the representation of poor people as a public defender in Kansas City (first in the trial division, then in the capital litigation division where she served as head of that office for nearly a decade). Cyndy's achievements for her clients are too numerous to mention. But one highlight occurred very early in her career, when a jury angered by the treatment of her client acquitted him and demanded an apology from the police and prosecutors for their wrongdoing. Once she devoted her practice to death penalty cases, she achieved wonderful results for her clients including dismissals, acquittals, and an exoneration. Her accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. She received the Lon O. Hocker Memorial Trial Lawyer Award in 1997, given annually by the Missouri Bar in recognition of outstanding trial work. She also received the Defender of Distinction Award in 1998 for her dedication to representing poor people charged with serious crimes. That is the highest honor given by the Missouri State Public Defender. The Western Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty recognized her work on the Dick Dexter case with their Courageous Litigator Award.

Cyndy Short graduated from Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers' College in 1994. Since 1997, she has been a TLC faculty member trains lawyers and judges around the country. She also serves on TLC's board as the liaison for TLC's alumni association (“The F Warriors”).

Numerous people owe their freedom and their lives to Cyndy's dedication, compassion, personal sacrifice, and skill as a trial lawyer.
