Each of our founding partners oversees a different area of the firm's practice. Steve Seiler heads the firm's Business & Technology Group; Mark Epstein directs the firm's Civil Litigation practice; Bill Ziegler oversees the firm's Real Estate Group; and Doug Applegate heads the firm's Appeals and Complex Litigation practice. Of course, many legal matters and many lawsuits overlap these groups, and our attorneys often collaborate and work together. We always assign primary responsibility for any legal matter to a single attorney, however, both to ensure that matters are handled in the most efficient manner and so that our clients have a direct point of contact.

Business and Technology
Headed by Steve Seiler, our Business and Technology Group assists clients in business formations, employment and licensing contracts, distribution agreements, Web sight compliance and corporate financing. We also provide general business guidance and advice, and are well-equipped to handle the day-to-day legal problems that modern businesses face.

Civil Litigation
Headed by Mark Epstein, the attorneys in our Civil Litigation Practice assist clients in all types of lawsuits. With our practice nearly equally split between representing plaintiffs and defendants, we are adept at assessing the strengths and weaknesses in any lawsuit, and advising our clients of the potential risks and rewards.

Real Estate
Our Real Estate Group is headed by Bill Ziegler, a leader in the Bay Area's real estate community. In 1971 Bill qualified with the Department of Real Estate for the first real estate time share project approved by the State of California. In addition, our real estate group is active in the areas of environmental law, resort properties, public and private offerings of real property, and state, regional, and local regulation of real estate.

Appeals and Complex Litigation
With licenses to practice by the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the Hawaii Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals and all of the lower appellate courts and divisions in California and Hawai'i, our attorneys are well qualified to handle all appellate matters. Overseen by Doug Applegate, our appeals and complex litigation group handles all types of civil writs and appeals, and also represents clients in the trial courts.

Eminent Domain
Many of our attorneys have a strong background in real estate transactions and litigation. Combined with our strengths in complex litigation and appeals, we are a natural choice for many landowners whose property is taken for public projects. These eminent domain and inverse condemnation proceedings primarly seek to ensure that landowners receive fair value for the acquisition or use of their property. The cases, however, operate with their own procedural and substantive rules. Our group of attorneys with years of experience in eminent domain and inverse condemantion cases set us apart from many other Bay Area firms.
