GUY O. KORNBLUM is the principal in Guy Kornblum & Associates, with offices in San Francisco, California.
The firm's practice focuses on representing plaintiffs, claimants, policyholders and victims of tortious and contractual wrongs in insurance bad faith (life, health and disability, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, and property and casualty claims), medical and legal malpractice, personal injury, wrongful death, commercial and real estate litigation and actions involving punitive damages claims.
The firm is supported by experienced lawyers and paralegals, and is client and result oriented. Mr. Kornblum has specialized as a trial and appellate lawyer for over 40 years. He has handled over 4000 litigated matters to conclusion and has several million dollar plus cases to his credit, including one of the largest settlements for a Golden Years client in a personal injury case. While concentrating in the torts and insurance field, he has handled a wide variety of cases from complex insurance, personal injury and wrongful death cases, as well as wrongful termination actions, real estate and commercial litigation, to medical and legal malpractice claims and cases involving insurance bad faith. He has several leading appellate court cases in California and before the Arizona Supreme Court.
Mr. Kornblum is Certified in Civil Trial Advocacy by the prestigious National Board of Trial Advocacy, and is a Charter Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America Trial Lawyer Honorary Society. He is also a Lifetime Member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and Million Dollar Advocates Forum, for those attorneys who have achieved multi-million dollar awards, settlements or verdicts for their clients. He is a platinum member of The Verdict Club, which is an elite society of litigators who are recognized for superior accomplishments for verdicts and settlements. Recent honors include: 2005-2006 edition of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law, as well as the 2006 Martindale-Hubbell Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He also has been named as a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Mr. Kornblum was selected by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce as one of its featured law firms in its 2004 Annual Report; and was the 2004 Law Firm of the Year, San Francisco Aids Legal Referral Panel (pro-bono), 2004.
Mr. Kornblum is the co-author of three books: Negotiating and Settling Tort Cases, published by the AAJ Press and Thompson West Publishing Company (2 Volumes), Litigating Insurance Claims: Coverage, Bad Faith and Business Disputes, published by Wiley & Sons, and the California Practice Guide: Bad Faith, published by The Rutter Group. He also is a contributing author to the California Continuing Education of the Bar’s, “Alternative Dispute Resolution in California,” which was published in 2005. He has authored well over 125 published articles on trial practice, discovery, civil procedure and insurance law and related topics.
He is well-known lecturer to bar associations and professional groups, having given over 400 presentations in 35 states and 3 foreign countries. He has been an instructor at Santa Clara University Law School, where he taught a seminar to third-year students, “Strategy, Tactics and Diplomacy in Dispute Resolution.” He has taught courses at San Francisco Law School entitled, “Insurance Law: A Consumer’s Perspective.” and “Remedies: The Courts Get Down to Business,” as well as courses at Hastings College of the Law, University of California.
Mr. Kornblum received his A.B. from Indiana University and, after serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, obtained his J.D. in 1966 from Hastings College of the Law, where he was a member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. After practicing privately, he returned to Hastings to serve as Assistant Dean and Professor in the early 1970's, at which time he co-founded and administered the Hastings College of Advocacy. He then returned to full time private practice in 1972.
For the past 30 years, Mr. Kornblum has had his own trial firm.
