Albro Lundy III
Litigation, Medical Malpractice Injury and Personal Injury
A leader in the legal field, Albro L. Lundy III epitomizes the ultimate in a trial lawyer. Not only is he a true warrior in the mold of his fighter pilot father (POW/MIA Maj. Albro L. Lundy Jr.) but he is also a deeply caring man who is willing to sacrifice for his client's cause. When you ask Albro what kind of law he practices, he will tell you: Trial Law. A fighter pilot in the courtroom, if you have a dispute, you need to hire Albro. An award-winning litigator with billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements to his credit, Albro is an AV rated lawyer, who was selected for inclusion in the California Super Lawyers 2008. He has been named one of the top trial lawyers in the State of California and is a 2009 finalist for the California Consumer Attorney of the Year and was among a select few nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year for the Consumer Attorney Association of Los Angeles.
Albro's success across the spectrum of cases make him in demand not only in the South Bay but across the U.S. Whether it is in prosecuting an anti-trust conspiracy against some of the world's largest energy companies that created the California energy crisis of 1990 to recover billions of dollars or in winning an eight figure multi-million dollar verdict against Cal-Trans for its dangerous roads and making the state's roads safer for everyone or defending the small business owner's rights, Albro gives every client the utmost in professional skill and personal attention. His record includes numerous seven and eight figure verdicts and settlements and his cases involve motor vehicle, motorcycle, truck, airplane and boating accidents, product defects, medical malpractice, workplace incidents, wrongful death, civil rights, dangerous roads, burns, breach of contracts, business disputes and others.
Albro's experience and advocacy ranges from the small town courtroom to the Halls of Congress. His charisma and persuasiveness has drawn public figures no less than Muhammad Ali, Al Gore and Ross Perot to take up his cause and stand by him for justice. In fact, The Champ, travelled with Albro to Vietnam, (ironically since he gave up his world Championship Crown and went to prison because he would not fight in Vietnam) to negotiate with its Premier the release of American prisoners they believed were held hostage by the communist government. Albro met with then-Senator Gore to convince him to cast the deciding vote to form a critical Senate Select Committee to investigate Government malfeasance. Albro has argued and delivered sworn testimony before both the Senate and House of Representatives. Albro's stand for the defenseless has attracted the attention of many major media outlets and he has appeared on Larry King Live, Good Morning America, the Ronald Reagan Show and Crossfire opposite John McCain to name a few.
A fifth generation Angelino, Albro graduated with a BA in Business Economics from UCLA in 1981 and was honored as a Chancellor's Marshall for his outstanding citizenship and service to the UCLA community. Before attending law school, Mr. Lundy won one of twelve fellowships from the prestigious CORO Foundation, which includes credit towards a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from Claremont Graduate School. Albro received his law degree from the Loyola Law School in 1981. After honing his skills at several prominent litigation firms, Mr. Lundy joined Baker and Burton in 1994. He and his partners pride themselves on their commitment to their clients and their community, trying to make this world a better place by the practice of their profession.
A member of the California State Bar Association, Albro is also a member of the California Consumer Attorneys Association, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles and the American Association for Justice, organizations which focus on protecting the injured and oppressed. Mr. Lundy a founding member of the 8th Street Lawyers, a group of trial lawyers from both the plaintiff and defense bar who have come together for the specific purpose of promoting civility in the legal profession.
Community Service
Each of the partners here at Baker, Burton & Lundy believe we have an obligation to give back to our community both legally and through community service. One of the most powerful ways in which Baker, Burton & Lundy has demonstrated its commitment to give back was regarding the fees it earned for its work in the $1.7 billion dollar win against Texas El Paso Gas Company. Baker, Burton & Lundy pledged to donate and then did donate 25% of their fees to charity. One of the primary recipients of this pledge was Floresta / Plant with Purpose (www.floresta.org or www.plantwithpurpose.org). Floresta, a Christian nonprofit organization, reverses deforestation and poverty in the world, by transforming the lives of the rural poor. Floresta heals the land and its people. Albro Lundy has been involved with Floresta since 1986 and has served on its Board of Directors for ten years. He is currently general counsel to Floresta and his wife now serves on the Board. Albro has taken his family on mission trips for Floresta to Tanzania, Africa and the Dominican Republic.
When Baker, Burton & Lundy won $2 billion dollars against Sempra Energy for unfair business practices, it took a portion of its fees and endowed a chair for Consumer Protection at Loyola Law School. We believe that having a full-time professor specifically teaching the law of consumer protection will make a difference by inspiring lawyers to make this world a safer place to live and protecting the men, women and children of the State of California from unfair business practices. We believe that those who are blessed with the opportunity to go to law school and practice law also have the obligation to use that skill and expertise to promote justice. To those who are given much, much is expected. Baker, Burton & Lundy takes that verse very seriously.
Albro, a man of deep faith, has been a member of the St. Lawrence Martyr Parish in Redondo Beach and has served on its Parish council for the last four years, and is currently serving as Vice President. Albro and his wife Cathi have been giving Engaged Encounter weekends for the Catholic Church for the last 23 years. They believe that marriage is the cornerstone of a strong family and that families are the basic fabric of our community. They have given weekends to over 4,000 couples and believe that they are changing the world by building strong marriages.
No greater love hath man than to lay down his life for another. Practically speaking, every time you donate blood, you save someone's life. Since he was 16 years old, Albro Lundy has been donating blood and currently has donated over 115 pints. When he was at UCLA, he ran the blood drive one quarter and was able to secure over 1,700 pints of blood. Albro isn't kidding when he says he truly gives of himself when he donates blood and tries to donate whenever he can. Among other volunteer endeavors that Albro gives of himself is his commitment to coaching. He has lost track of the number of basketball, soccer and volleyball teams he has coached but continues to do so as he believes that teaching by example is truly learned. It is not about winning per se, but about having fun. Albro's teams have fun.
