In the event that we feel that you might need more specialized experience than we might have, we have a network of other professionals that we work with to ensure you get the outcome you are entitled to receive.

Attorney Profile

Michael (Mike) Hanson J.D. graduated from the University of Akron; School of Law, in 1991. He obtained his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. He was admited to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1991. In addition to his legal practice Mike is Managing Director of IKOR in Western Pennsylvaina. As Managing Director, Mike manages and directs professional medical advocacy and guardianship services for the Elderly and the Disabled. In this role he is supported by a team of Registered Nurses and Personal Needs Coordinators who support elderly and disabled clients in mantaining their dignity and improving their quality of life. In his career Mike has work for three major insurance carriers, State Farm, Nationwide, and Erie Insurance in the Greater Philadelphia and Greater Pittsburgh Area in Claims related positions. Mike also worked as an associate attorney with Edgar Snyder & Associates in Pittsburgh PA. Mike has a experience in Wills & Estate planning and enjoys working with seniors and the disabled. He is working to fulfill the requirement for a certification as an Elder Law Attorney and feels passionate about the standards of care for the elderly and disabled. Combining his legal experience and the expertise of IKOR we are able to offer services as they relate to Elder Law issues and special needs trusts.

In his 20 years as an attorney and as insurance professional Mike has worked on thousands of insurance related claims for insurance companies and as an attorney for Pittsburgh's largest personal injury firm. He understands both sides of resolving insurance and personal injury claims giving his clients an edge in getting what they deserve. Having handled hundreds of complex automobile, motorcycle, boating, bus and truck accident claims Mike understands what his clients and their families are going through when they are injured as a result of another person’s negligence. Mike knows the insurance company systems, procedures and their real limitations (not just the limitations they tell you about). He has inside knowledge of how to navigate with confidence through the complex process of resolving serious injury claims. Mike has also handled his share of Dog Bites, Slip & Fall injuries, Wrongful Death, Construction related accidents and many other areas throughout his career.

Having completed course work in Conflict Resolution and Mediation Mike is working to complete the requirements to become a certified Mediator in the state Pennsylvania. He is focused on obtaining specialized training resolving conflicts as they related to  the Edlerly and Disabled. As a Mediator, Mike has calming and overriding neutrality in evaluating and resolving conflicts. In his approach he helps both parties recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each side, so that at the end of mediation both parties can be reasonably satisfied with the outcome. In the event that conflict comes to an impasse he helps both parties consider the risks and costs of resolving a dispute before a judge or jury, making sure they understand the potential outcomes before proceeding to the next phase.

 As an attorney Mike’s approach in interacting with his clients can be less formal at times. His style is collaborative and he spends a lot of time to gain a true understanding of what his clients are up against. He advises them as he would a close friend not as an authority figure. He explains things in simple language making the law and the legal system make sense to his clients. He serves his clients with a high degree of professionalism and integrity and works toward the most favorable outcome for his clients. 

As a Consultant Mike's approach is collaborative. He spends time gaining an understanding of the approach and the culture of the attorney or the law firm he is working with. He presents his work taking the lead from the culture of the law firm or the attorney he is working with. He works with a high degree of professionalism and integrity and works for the most favorable outcome for all parties involved in the process.

Mike has been happily married to his wife Patty for 8 years and they are the proud parents of a 5 years old daughter. In his free time Mike enjoys spending time with his family, following professional sports, health and wellness related activities and reading.
