Bruce J. Klores was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated in New York City public schools. Prior to becoming an attorney he held a variety of jobs, ranging from teaching high school social studies and coaching basketball in rural Maine, to selling hot dogs at the Statue of Liberty. Both were instructive and fun. In 1983, with one case, Mr. Klores opened his law practice in a brownstone basement office in the building which his firm now occupies in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. For the majority of his career he has limited his practice to representing victims and families of medical negligence and other catastrophic injuries. His firm has achieved verdicts and settlements totaling well over $200 million, present value.
Growing up in a working class family, Mr. Klores remains dedicated to the underdog. When he is not in court arguing on behalf of one of his clients, he advocates protecting their rights before the U.S. Congress, D.C. City Council, and other legislative bodies. At the same time he works to revise and rewrite laws that affect the firm's clients' ability to pursue justice in the courtroom. He has been an adjunct professor of law at his alma mater—Catholic University. Mr. Klores has been fortunate to receive many honors in his career. He was the 1998–1999 Trial Lawyer of the Year, presented by the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. He was also a past president of that organization. Mr. Klores is also the past chairman of the Medical Malpractice Committee of the D.C. Bar. He has been continuously listed in The Best Lawyers of America, selected for the first time prior to the age of 40. He is a fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, organizations which limit memberships to the top 1% of attorneys nationwide.
Mr. Klores is a frequent lecturer and writer in the field of medical malpractice and trial practice. Every year he teaches lawyers how to handle medical malpractice cases. He also chairs the popular "Medicine for Lawyers" program and works closely with some of the finest physicians in the United States in order to achieve the best result for his clients. Mr. Klores firmly believes that reputations are earned by hard work, discipline and integrity. Most of the firm's clients are referred by former clients, physicians, other lawyers, judges, and even hospital risk managers. The firm chooses to develop its clients in these ways rather than through commercial marketing and television advertising. If your case is accepted by the firm Mr. Klores will play an integral role in its prosecution.
Bruce J. Klores & Associates, P.C. is also committed to fostering the quality of life for those who work in the firm and for those who live in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In 2002, the Bar Association of the District of Columbia awarded the law firm the "Quality of Life Award" recognizing the firm's treatment of all its employees. In 2001, the United Planning Organization awarded the firm the prestigious "Martin Luther King, Jr. Corporate Community Service Award" for its work with disadvantaged children. Prior awardees of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award were corporate giants such as PEPCO and Safeway.
Mr. Klores has been married to the former Irene Patellis since 1984. Mrs. Klores is a former professional ballet dancer. The Klores family is blessed to have 20-year-old twins, Steven and Molly.
