Benjamin Shein, Esquire
Benjamin Shein was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. After graduating from The Episcopal Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. He attended law school and received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1984 from the University of Miami, School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida. He has been actively involved in protecting legal rights since 1977 when he served as a law clerk while still in high school. He became a practicing attorney in 1985 and has devoted 100% of his professional time and attention to seeking justice for injured people.
Attorney Shein has successfully represented asbestos victims and their families for more than 25 years. He has settled hundreds of asbestos, personal injury, and wrongful death lawsuits arising from mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other asbestos-related diseases. He has also obtained several multi-million dollar jury verdicts on behalf of his clients in asbestos and product liability cases.

Bethann P. Schaffzin, Esquire
Bethann P. Schaffzin concentrates her practice primarily in representing victims of asbestos exposure, including those who have and are suffering from malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer, as well as representing others injured by defective products and victims of medical malpractice. She has helped obtain many multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements for her clients; which has earned her membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Her unique perspective in representing and getting to know a client and his or her entire family have earned her great respect amongst her peers, the judiciary, her clients and their loved ones. Additionally, she has represented the wives and family members of those who have worked with asbestos and who have developed mesothelioma and lung cancer from exposure to a loved one’s clothing. Ms. Schaffzin graduated from the George Washington University in 1989 and from Villanova Law School in 1992. After completing a clerkship with the Honorable Sandra Mazer Moss involving litigation focused on toxic products such as asbestos, diethylstilbestrol (DES), breast implants, lead paint, as well as medical malpractice, and professional liability cases, she entered private practice where she specializes in helping those diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer from asbestos exposure.
Ms. Schaffzin is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is a member of and sits on committees for local, state and national trial lawyer associations. She has published articles and has been invited to lecture to various audiences, including unions and their members, the medical community, and her peers in the legal profession.
In addition to time dedicated to her career, Ms. Schaffzin is very involved with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and helps people diagnosed with celiac disease learn to adapt to the world of gluten free living and regaining their health. Ms. Schaffzin also volunteers her time helping cancer patients and their families cope with illness.

John P. Kopesky
John Kopesky has lived his entire life in the Philadelphia area. He graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1972 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Villanova University School of Business in 1976. He attended the Villanova University of School of Law, was an Associate Editor of the Villanova Law Review, and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1979.
Attorney Kopesky began his legal career in Philadelphia in 1979 as a litigator with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. In 1980, he took a one-year leave of absence and served as clerk to the Honorable Bruce W. Kauffman during Justice Kauffman’s tenure on the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. In 1987, he joined the litigation form of Hoyle, Morris and Kerr, becoming a partner of the firm in 1990.
Since 1994, Mr. Kopesky has specialized in representing individuals who have been injured as a result of medical malpractice and defective medical devices and drugs, obtaining multiple settlements in excess of $1 million for his clients. Since joining the Shein Law Center in February 2007, Attorney Kopesky has represented the victims of asbestos exposure as well as plaintiffs in other products liability/toxic tort litigation and medical malpractice claims.
Mr. Kopesky is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and before the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Villanova Law J. Willard O’Brien American Inn of Court and a member of the Villanova Law Alumni Association’s Board of Advisors. He has published articles and has lectured attorneys on topics relating to pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. John Kopesky has also served as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association and as a Settlement Master with the Philadelphia Court system.

Heather L. Kaplan
Heather L. Kaplan was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, graduating from Council Rock High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University in 1993 and her Juris Doctorate degree from the City University of New York School of Law in 1997. She is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
She joined the Shein Law Center in February 2009, after spending eleven years representing injured victims as a result of medical malpractice, defective medical devices and drugs. At Shein Law Center, she focuses her efforts on representing asbestos victims and their families by advocating for those suffering from mesothelioma, lung cancer and other asbestos related diseases.
