William W. Thies
William W. Thies was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 23, 1974. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science from Louisiana State University in 1996 and his Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law School in 2001. He was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar Association in May, 2002. Mr. Thies is a member of the Baton Rouge, Louisiana and American Bar Associations, the Louisiana Association of Justice, both the Louisiana and Baton Rouge Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Baton Rouge Bar Association Pro Bono Panel, The Society for the Preservation of Advocates d/b/a YaYa, Hunter’s Run Gun Club in Port Allen, Louisiana. Mr. Thies is a former member of Baton Rouge’s Forum 35. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Middle District and Eastern District of Louisiana as well as all other state courts. Mr. Thies is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Thies is a firm believer in protecting and defending those who cannot or are incapable of defending themselves, and as such, is one of only a handful of Louisiana lawyers accepting pro bono cases through his membership with the Animal Law Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Mr. Thies is also a member of the Governmental Law Section and the Auto Tort sections of the Louisiana State Bar Association.
Mr. Thies has a passion for intercollegiate athletics and is both a member and scout for the Florida Citrus Sports bowl affiliation providing sponsorship for both the Capital One Bowl and the Champ Sports Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The FCS annually pivots the best in college football from the SEC, ACC, and Big 10 conferences with all funds raised donated to local Orlando charities. The Big East will be added for the 2010 season. As a scout for the FCS, Mr. Thies travels the SEC, ACC, and Big 10 conferences scouting for the FCS in effort to pit the best opponents college football has to offer.
Mr. Thies regularly volunteers his time as an arbitrator for Baton Rouge City Court having presided over dozens of cases where the jurisdictional limit is met. Mr. Thies volunteers at the Louisiana State University Law Center as a Flory Trial Judge and as an Appellate Advocacy Panel Judge. Mr. Thies has also served as a guest instructor at the Southeastern Louisiana University criminal justice seminar and Continuing Legal Education seminars for defending DWI cases. Mr. Thies’ practice areas include Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Criminal and DWI defense.
Mr. Thies holds an advanced open water dive certification through PADI and expects to become rescue diver certified in the near future. When on vacation and away from the office, most of Mr. Thies’ time is spent either underwater, on the golf course, or snow skiing. Mr. Thies recently began his first season as Baton Rouge High School’s boys assistant soccer coach and head J.V. coach. William W. Thies has resided in Baton Rouge, Louisiana since 1992.
