Jacob Shapiro grew up with a disabled father and attributes his interest in helping injured people to his upbringing. After graduating as a valedictorian from Cupertino High School, Mr. Shapiro attended UC Berkeley where he was a Regent Scholar, Alumni Scholar and finished with High Honors majoring in Political Science. He went on to graduate summa cum laude from Santa Clara Law School obtaining American Jurisprudence Awards for being at the top of his class in Torts, the field in which he practices exclusively, and Business Organizations. Mr. Shapiro was also the Best Oral Advocate in the final round of Moot Court. Since 1996, Mr. Shapiro has worked in the area of plaintiff’s personal injury providing advice, legal services, and his expertise to thousands of individuals. This includes many trials both as solo trial counsel and as part of a trial team. Mr. Shapiro worked as an attorney for Blackman Legal Group, a firm specializing in personal injury, for 17 years before starting his own practice. While Mr. Shapiro has handled a number of six and seven figure cases resulting from either settlement or trial he prides himself on giving personal attention to each and every client regardless of the size of their case. He is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts throughout California. Mr. Shapiro is published in the area of elevator litigation in the American Association of Justice October, 2010 issue of Trial and is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California. Mr. Shapiro's qualifications also extend to the California Court of Appeals, where he won a landmark decision confirming the non-delegable duty of commercial property owners and their full liability for injuries caused by defective elevators. Unique aspects of Mr. Shapiro's practice include his use of analytics to determine case values and help make economic decisions during the handling of litigation as well as using settlement procedures to not only maximize clients' net recoveries but to give them the best possible chance of prevailing at trial. Mr. Shapiro’s wife Rosalind is also a member of the bar who grew up in San Jose. Mrs. Shapiro graduated from Howard University majoring in Communications and then attended Santa Clara University School of Law. She works part-time in the Burlingame office where she focuses her attention on obtaining updates from clients and gathering the evidence necessary to substantiate claims of liability and damages. She also handles audio visual production in the courtroom. Previously she spent years volunteering at Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center where she helped mediation participants in the community. Mr. & Mrs. Shapiro have two girls and live in Millbrae. Outside of work Mr. Shapiro's interests include most of the major sports including all Bay Area professional franchises and auction league fantasy football in addition to supporting his daughters' recreational activities which include team athletics. He also has a passion for American History and an avid interest in presidential politics as well as Supreme Court cases which he reads for entertainment.
