A Raleigh native, Jeff earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University in 1986. He earned his law degree from Campbell University School of Law in 1989 where his article “Battered Spouse Syndrome” was published in the Campbell Law Review. Jeff is an experienced Raleigh criminal lawyer.
Jeff joined the other lawyers at Kirk, Kirk, Howell, Cutler & Thomas, L.L.P. in 1989 and became a partner in 1992. Jeff has effectively represented the citizens of Raleigh and all over North Carolina since 1989. His determination and passion to help those in need has led to great results in court and great relationships with his clients, even after their cases are resolved. He is a highly rated criminal lawyer in Raleigh, NC.
Jeff earned the status of a State Criminal Law Specialist in 2009. At that time, he was one of only four attorneys in the Wake County area to attain the status of Criminal Law Specialist in the last fifteen years. This certification comes from proving his proficiency, skill, experience and knowledge in all aspects of criminal law from the most serious of charges, including capital and non-capital murder cases down to traffic matters and NC driver license restoration. As our resident Raleigh criminal lawyer, Jeff will listen to you side of the story and examine all the evidence so that he can best advise you on how to proceed in court.
Jeff is married to his wife Holly, has two teenage children and enjoys golfing and coaching youth sports.
It is easy (and important) to announce a not guilty verdict and have us all chime in on the victory. What is not easy but just as important is to recognize great work that still results in a guilty verdict. Last month, Jeff Cutler, a Wake County contracting attorney, tried a case in which his client was accused of two murders. His client was 15 years old at the time of the crimes. The evidence was that the assailants were looking for some pay back against a rival gang. They shot up the house where the gang members once lived. Tragically, the new residents were a young couple and their children. The parents were killed. Jeff fought the good fight, cross-examined the informants mightily and gave great openings and closings.
After the jury found his client guilty, he then fought just as hard at the sentencing hearing that his client deserved a chance of parole one day. The judge sentenced his client to life.
I want to thank and recognize Jeff for working so hard for his client. And I thank all of you for the hard work you do every day.
